WHY WE ALMOST WORLD SCHOOL
“We make memories, but memories make us too”
Dr. Bruce Perry
About fifteen years ago, I met someone who was about to embark on an “around the world” journey with her 6 year old twins and 6 month old baby. I had never heard of anyone doing this. I didn’t know you could buy “Around the World” flights. They exist. My dream was born. At the top of my “bucket list” is visit all continents and as many countries as possible.
This woman said people were calling her crazy for taking her little ones out of school to do this. I immediately thought she was brilliant. This is what I wanted for my future children.
Fast forward to today, I love being a nanny. I love being a Mama even more. Children have always been my life. I love how raw they are. Children, especially young ones keep me in the moment. That’s my favorite place to be.
We Almost World School Kail because we want to introduce him to as many cultures as possible. We want to spend time with him. We want to help him find answers to his deepest questions. We want to encourage critical thinking skills. We want to teach him how to think, not what to think. We want to help him light his passions on fire, and learn alongside him. We want him to move his body whenever he feels like it. We want him to play endlessly, make up silly games, and become the world changer he already is.
We Almost World School because children learn from being in the world. Did you teach your child to speak or to walk or to laugh? You may have encouraged them along the way but they naturally learn from watching and being curious. This doesn’t magically stop when a child turns 5 (or 2 or 3 these days) and society says, they must go to school to learn.
They learn from travel and new experiences. They learn from meeting people. They learn from mixed age play. They learn from going to the park, the grocery store, watching the garbage trucks, going on bike rides and being in nature. They are always learning. If a young child is deeply interested in something, he is learning. If he is uninterested, his mind will go somewhere else.
We Almost WorldSchool Kail, because we want to give our son, the world. 🌎
It’s all learning!
In my next blog, I’ll walk you through why I refuse to put Kail in traditional or private school.
